Overview
We are very selective with adoptions, feeling that our animals have been unwanted and abandoned at least once before and we strive to find a permanent home where they won’t return to the cycle of homeless pets. Anyone who adopts an animal from us can return the animal at any time during the life of that animal. In fact, we insist on it. It’s part of the promise to all animals that come through our gates that we will be here for them today and for the rest of their lives.
Part of the adoption procedure will entail a home visit (no exceptions) and we do not adopt outside of a three-hour radius of our facility, which is located near Troy, Missouri.
Adoption Fees
Dogs: $250; and includes:

Current rabies, given by veterinarian

DHLPP & Bordetella, given at the sanctuary

Cats: $175; and includes:

Any chronic medical conditions currently being treated will be discussed in depth. If there are current or emerging medical conditions, they are treated prior to adoption.
We encourage adopters to feed premium food and maintain healthy weights on adopted dogs. Adopters sign a contract stating that they will maintain the health and well being of the animal, including heartworm preventative. Adopters must return animals to Dogwood Farm Sanctuary if they are not able to keep animals or maintain their health.
Pre-Adoption Form
Whether you adopt from us or another rescue group, this has a direct effect on the number of homeless animals. For each one adopted, it makes a space for another. We have numerous dogs and cats available for adoption. We ask that you first fill out a pre-adoption form so that we understand what you are seeking and we can best determine if we can meet your needs. The purpose of this form is to convey this relevant information and give us a starting point in discussing adoption and the dog or cat you are most interested in. This is not to deter you, rather speed the process for best results. We also require a home visit as an important step in the adoption process.
Not all of our animals for adoptions are listed. We may receive the perfect dog for you the day after you submit a pre-adoption form. We will try to find you a good match. If we don’t have what you want or need, we work with many groups in the area and can help you find that special dog or cat.
